I love this series and have read it several times and had given it 4 stars when I joined goodreads. however, I just started reading the series out loud to my family and I'm changing it to a 3. it's a lot slower than the next 4 books, and doesn't have hardly anything to do with the next 4 books. I also didn't realize how many swear words it has and how much locker room talk.

Becoming
by Michelle Obama

*Becoming* by Michelle Obama is a deeply personal and introspective memoir that offers readers an intimate look into the life of one of the most influential women of our time. The book is divided into three sections: "Becoming Me," "Becoming Us," and "Becoming More," each chronicling different phases of her life, from her childhood in Chicago to her time as First Lady of the United States. One of the most compelling aspects of *Becoming* is Michelle Obama’s candidness. She doesn't shy away from discussing the challenges and insecurities she faced along the way, whether it was growing up as a Black girl in a predominantly white society, navigating the complexities of her relationship with Barack Obama, or the scrutiny she endured as First Lady. Her voice is authentic and relatable, making her journey feel accessible to readers from all walks of life. The memoir also shines in its portrayal of Michelle’s deep commitment to her family and her values. Her love for her parents, her dedication to her daughters, and her partnership with Barack are all central themes that resonate throughout the book. Additionally, her reflections on her role as First Lady, particularly her initiatives like Let’s Move! and her advocacy for education, offer a glimpse into the impact she aimed to have on the country. *Becoming* is more than just a memoir; it’s an inspiring narrative about growth, resilience, and finding one's voice. Michelle Obama’s story is a powerful reminder that success isn’t just about where you end up, but about the journey and the person you become along the way. Her grace, strength, and humility shine through every page, making this book a must-read for anyone interested in understanding the life and legacy of one of the most admired figures in modern history.

Really good. At times I was frustrated with the lead character, but it really was a great story. A bit dark, but very poignant.
